NIU today | NIU Launches Pride with Purpose, a New Homecoming Tradition

A new tradition is introduced as NIU plans its 115e Homecoming celebration. The annual “Pride with Purpose” shirt sale will support scholarships and allow Huskies to show their pride with a limited edition piece of clothing.

The annual Pride with Purpose Shirt Sale is a collaborative effort between NIU Athletics, the NIU Foundation, the NIU Alumni Association and the Division of Registration Management, Marketing and Communications. Each year, the campus community will be invited to vote for the t-shirt design and the winning design will be produced in limited quantities and offered for sale for one year. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be used to support NIU’s general student scholarship fund.

“We are thrilled to provide our alumni, faculty, staff and students with a new homecoming tradition that will have a meaningful impact during our homecoming celebration and will continue throughout the year,” said Matt Streb, NIU chief of staff and president of Homecoming. Planning Committee. “The funds raised through this annual sale will greatly benefit current and future Huskies by allowing NIU to provide students with more institutional assistance.”

For the inaugural year, Pride with Purpose shirt designs were created by designers from the Enrollment Management Division, Creative Services Department of Marketing and Communications. Until Friday, September 16, 2022, Huskies can see the designs submitted and vote for their favourite.

The three designs offered for the Pride with Purpose T-shirt.

Those who participate in the vote will be entered into a raffle for an NIU football helmet or two tickets to a home football game of their choice.

The chosen design will be announced during Homecoming Week and will be available for purchase through September 2023 on the NIU Alumni Association storefront and in the Follett Bookstore at Holmes Student Center. The shirt will cost $20.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this new Homecoming tradition,” said Catherine Squires, Vice President of Academic Advancement and President and CEO of the NIU Foundation. “Our alumni and donors look forward to our Homecoming celebration and have always been generous in supporting the institution.”

“The annual Pride with Purpose Shirt Sale provides another opportunity for our alumni and donors to support our current students in need of financial assistance,” Squires continued. “We can’t wait to see our alumni wear these shirts and display their Huskie Pride in a meaningful way.”
