AffiliateINSIDER Amplify Summit Recap – Amplify Marketing Strategies with Automation and AI

the AffiliateINSIDER Amplify Summit was a huge success and brought together people from across the industry to discuss some of the industry’s biggest innovations; innovations caused by factors such as automation and AI, or artificial intelligence.

Therefore, it made sense that we would dedicate a panel to this at the Summit! the Amplify marketing strategies with automation and AI was the third panel on Day 1 of the Summit, 17and of January.

The panel was sponsored by Tipalti and hosted by the CEO and Founder of AffiliateINSIDER Lee Ann Johnstone. The experts on the panel were:

  • Katie King – British author – AI in marketing and founder of Zoodikers
  • Dustin Howe – Director of Partner Management at Grovia
  • Tom Ollerton – Founder of Automated Creation
  • Alex Springer – Sales and Solutions RVP at

With just an hour on the clock, they discussed a range of topics related to automation, AI, and affiliate marketing. Let’s take a closer look at some of the key takeaways from this panel.

Why are automation and AI so important?

The first point discussed is simply why automation and AI are so important, and why they should be included in affiliate marketing operations. It’s still a relatively new area, but there are plenty of opportunities to tap into.

Katie noted that it’s always important to follow trends as they evolve, as they will help personalize the consumer journey. AI will still be able to process data much faster than a human will, which means it is able to provide a service that others cannot.

Tom also pointed out that automation can be used to take out a lot of the guesswork used in marketing strategy. This can help create campaigns that are more effective overall.

Alex added that it can be difficult to apply the right level of automation to operations. For now, it should be used to meet clients at their level.

Dustin pointed out that automation tools are getting better every day. There’s always a new tool or innovation coming to market, which means there’s a new way to improve operations. Brands should have automation tools in place before involving the affiliate as this will make the promotion a bit easier.

Will AI replace humans?

One factor always discussed when considering the advent of automation and AI is the role it will play in workflow. Will it one day replace man? Our panelists had differing opinions.

Katie thought it was going to take maybe at least 100 years, but not any time soon. However, she agreed that this is changing and shaping the nature of the work we do. Dustin disagreed and believed that automation and AI were going to take over in the next ten years, and that would be the future of the workplace.

Alex pointed out that the AI is currently only good at asking specific questions. We need to be able to accurately translate the data that AI can collect into something useful for the business.

Tom described humans as the multiplier. If you remove the human from the processes, you remove the most important part of the technology.

What advice would you give digital marketers to amplify marketing automation?

We asked our panelists what advice they would give digital marketers looking to amp up their marketing automation, and they got some fantastic answers.

Katie stressed the importance of having weekly or monthly briefings. An employee should be tasked with keeping tabs on any competition and continuing to learn, so they can continue to evolve the brief and operations as needed.

Alex had the great advice from before hitting the automation button, be sure to point it at what you want. If you’re having trouble, find an expert to help you fine-tune operations.

Dustin noted that anything you try should be extremely adaptable to upcoming trends. Since this factor is constantly changing, you need to make sure you have something that stays up to date or else you risk being left behind.

Tom also added that you can use automation to figure out what works. The world of affiliate marketing is so variable and there are many approaches for various tasks. Automation and AI could be a way to narrow down which practices work best for you.

Should you implement automation and AI?

If we can take anything away from this panel, it’s that many opportunities await those who want to introduce automation and AI into their marketing efforts. However, this needs to be done carefully and with purpose to ensure we see real, achievable results that can be implemented into broader strategies.
